Americans United for Separation of Church and State is a nonpartisan educational organization dedicated to preserving the constitutional principle of church-state separation as the only way to ensure religious freedom for all Americans. The Orange County Chapter focuses on issues that are local to Orange County and Southern California. If the issue of separation of church and state is important to you, please join us!

Why We Are Nonpartisan

• The tax code grants nonprofits special tax-free status specifically because they work for the common good.

• The Johnson Amendment, which has been in the tax code for more than 60 years, protects the integrity of these tax-exempt organizations by ensuring they do not endorse or oppose political candidates.

• Americans United for Separation of Church and State is a nonprofit which is why your donations are tax-exempt. In order to protect both our national organization and our chapter, we remain strictly nonpartisan.

What does this mean?

• • We do not endorse or oppose any political candidates – we do not permit endorsement/opposition by our speakers or by our meeting attendees

  • We do not endorse political parties – we do not permit endorsement/opposition by our speakers or by our meeting attendees

  • What do we do?

    • Participate and do on the ground activism relating to issues and propositions,

    • Testify before school boards, city councils, Board of Supervisor meetings etc..
