We meet on the first Saturday of every month at Irvine Water District Headquarters at 15600 Sand Canyon Avenue, Irvine, CA 92618-3102. Our meeting starts at 1:30 PM and social starts at 1 PM. The AU Orange County Chapter is dedicated to community volunteers. The two most important activities are to understand our community and to reach out to the community with information and assistance. AU-OC members will train you and work with you on these critically important activism opportunities!

Monitor School Board and City Council Meetings

Do you know what your local City Council and School Board are doing? Are after school activities being fairly administered? Does your elected official disparage members of minority religious faiths or try to impose their vision of morality outside secular law? You can be part of the solution by getting involved with your local City Council and School Board meetings. A list of the times, places, and websites for Orange County meetings can be found below:

Attend a local meeting and see what is happening in your community. You may be surprised. AU-OC has created training materials to help you get started.

What's Up in Congress?

Get connected with your Senator Boxer, Senator Feinstein, and your Congressman (just enter your zip code at this link). Get on their mailing list, even if you didn't vote for them. They represent your district and are your voice in Congress. Let them know what you think. What are they up to? Get on their mailing list and find out.


What's Up in the Legislature?

Do you know what your Assemblyman or State Senator is up to? They probably have more influence over your life than anyone in Washington DC. Pay attention to your government, and make your opinions known. Sign up for their e-mails and newsletters. To get a link that will map out your State Senate or Assembly District go to the OC Registrar of Voters website.

Media Task Force

Monitor your local papers and respond to any anti-separation of church and state editorials and articles.

Publicize any issues arising from the school board and city council monitoring

Learn to deal with press interviews and get our message out.


Monitor Stealth Candidates

Monitor and evaluate local candidates based on their views on separation of church and state. Publicize information on these candidates through the Media Task Force.

Monitor and Report Pulpit Electioneering

Monitor churches, focusing on those reportedly doing pulpit electioneering in the 2004 election.


Speakers’ Bureau

Participate in a Speakers’ Bureau to speak to organizations of all kinds about the need for maintaining the separation of church and state.
