Meet the Steering Committee

The Steering Committee of the Orange County Chapter is a temporary committee while we are going through our initial formation.  Once we are up and running we will conduct a formal election.

President – Steph Campbell

Ms. Campbell is a naturalized U.S. citizen, born in England, and spent part of her childhood in Israel.

She is a former member of the Board of the Orange County Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and has been active with the Southern California ACLU Chapter Council.  She is a certified ACLU speaker on Church and State issues including the Faith Based Initiative program.  She also speaks on women’s issues and gay rights issues, and is a former Regional Director to the California State Board of the National Women’s Political Caucus.  She is a founding member of the Orange County Chapter of Americans United For Separation of Church and State, and serves on the organization's National Advisory Council.

She may be reached at:  smcampbell@ca.rr.com

Vice President – Alison Young

Alison Young was born and raised in Chicago Illinois, and received her undergraduate degree in Anthropology from Beloit College in Wisconsin.

Relocating to California in 1974, she has had a long career in information technology as a Business Systems Analyst and Support Manager at PacifiCare Health Systems.  She is President of the Santa Ana Historical Preservation Society which is active in grassroots challenges to demolition to historic properties and local development issues.  Alison lives in an historic 1938 home in Santa Ana with her teenage daughter Eris, who often joins her mother at progressive meetings and actions.

She may be reached at:  Alison.Young@phs.com

Treasurer – Carl Weibel

Carl Weibel is a lifelong Santa Ana resident. He graduated from Santa Ana High in 1990 and got an AA degree in Liberal Arts from Santa Ana College. He went back to school later in life and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix.

Carl is the co-organizer of the "Let's Help America" Meetup group and has begun to write some articles on Helium.com. He sometimes trains in MMA/grappling and is a blue belt in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. The actions of the religious right inspired Carl to become active in progressive causes, and he plans on being politically active in one way or another for the rest of his life.

He may be reached at:  carleweibel@aol.com

Secretary – Karla Westphal

Karla Westphal is a professor of mathematics at Saddleback College.

Karla is currently the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit against Saddleback College opposing sectarian prayers at mandatory school assemblies.  She is being represented by legal council from Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

She may be reached at:  karlawestphal@cox.net
