We meet on the first Saturday of every month at Irvine Water District Headquarters at 15600 Sand Canyon Avenue, Irvine, CA 92618-3102. Our meeting starts at 1:30 PM and social starts at 1 PM. What Hath the Elections Wrought?
Congress Has a New Look
The mid-term election shifted power in the House of Representatives and as a result there are going to be changes that may undermine the separation of church and state. The election reflects the transition to people who care more about vouchers than science, more about taxes than the Constitution.
In January 2011 the House leadership and committee chairmanships will change. It is the leadership that schedules legislation and decides which bills will come to a vote and what amendments will be considered. The key staff that AU has successfully worked with for the past four years will change.
One thing that we can expect is for amendments supporting school vouchers and faith based funding to be attached to critical legislation. With an almost equal split in the Senate, some of this legislation may make it to the President's desk. As AU Executive Director Barry Lynn has said, "If Obama doesn’t have a veto pen, we’ll send him one. He’ll need it!"

What is your representative up to? It's not hard to find out, and what you learn may be surprising. Even if you don't like the people who represent you, you should sign up for their newsletters and e-mail blasts. It's important to know what your representatives are doing and to let them know what you think about it. And if there is an issue that AU should get involved with, then we need to hear from you.
