Activism OpportunitiesThe AU Orange County Chapter is dedicated to community activism. The two most important actions are to understand our community and to reach out to the community with information and assistance. AU-OC members will train you and work with you on these critically important activism opportunities! Monitor School Board and City Council MeetingsDo you know what your local City Council and School Board are doing? Are after school activities being fairly administered? Does your elected official disparage members of minority religious faiths or try to impose their vision of morality outside secular law? You can be part of the solution by getting involved with your local City Council and School Board meetings. A list of the times, places, and websites for Orange County meetings can be found below: Attend a local meeting and see what is happening in your community. You may be surprised. AU-OC has created training materials to help you get started. Learn more about the Brown Act and proper conduct and ethical behavior of elected officials in meetings (here). Media Task ForceMonitor your local papers and respond to any anti-separation of church and state editorials and articles. Publicize any issues arising from the school board and city council monitoring Learn to deal with press interviews and get our message out. Monitor Stealth CandidatesMonitor and evaluate local candidates based on their views on separation of church and state. Publicize information on these candidates through the Media Task Force. Monitor and Report Pulpit ElectioneeringMonitor churches, focusing on those reportedly doing pulpit electioneering in the 2004 election. Speakers’ BureauParticipate in a Speakers’ Bureau to speak to organizations of all kinds about the need for maintaining the separation of church and state. |
